My Fair Lady in Madrid

A mega production is coming to the Teatro Coliseum. So much so that a good amount of cash has been additionally invested in a big refurbishment of the actual venue… everything hiper super mega. Well, the important point here is that the lyrical version of Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion is finally being brought about for the delight of those who like stories musically performed.

This generous production that Cartel Teatro and Cie España Rock & Pop (the ones responsible for bringing fantastic shows such as Tap Dogs, Mayumana and settings by the Fura dels Baus) have carried out investing about 700 million ptas (€ 4.207 million) in the project is going to count on about forty singers who have been carefully recruited in order to offer a first class performance led by the most famous musical performers right now in the country, especially after the unexpected success they reached with El Hombre de la Mancha (Don Quixote) not long ago. They are José Sacristán and Paloma San Basilio, who else?

For those of you who don't know or remember the story based on Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion, here is a brief reminder:

In the Greek mythology, Pygmalion was a sculptor who was fascinated and absorbed by his own production. So much so that he was in love with one of the statues he had created, a lady called Galatea. In the end the Goddess Venus, feeling mercy for him decides to give life to the statue, so the artist can marry her.

Apparently this story has a lot to do with the own life of Shaw, since he was deeply in love for a long time with one of the actresses who used to perform in one of his plays, and apparently had a tormenting relationship with her for some time.
