Taxis

Spain, fortunately, and Madrid in particular, relies on a Taxi service that is the envy of the rest of Europe.

The tariffs of the taxi are STANDARDIZED If you are new to Madrid you'll quickly realize that the taxis are distinguished by their white colored body crossed by a red sash. Without fail, focus once inside the vehicle on the driver's accreditation card-- obligatory for all individuals involved in some form of public transport. That card plus the photograph of the taxi driver are the necessary data if you should ever come to a case in which you want to present/display some complaint.

The tariffs of the taxi are STANDARDIZED, and respond to the following table:

The return fairs, as well as those for holidays and at night are the same.

To give you an idea: A taxi from the airport to the Puerta del Sol costs 2,000 - 2,500 ptas on a normal weekday. This includes the extra tariffs from the tables above.

INFORMATION PHONE FOR LOST OBJECTS DURING NORMAL TAXI SERVICE
The interested party should wait 72 hours after the disappearance of the object to make their claim. If the object does not appear, you should complete an official reclamation form and mail it to the General Council for Taxis and Vehicles (la Seccion de Autotaxis y Vehiculos del Ayuntamiento). If you know the license plate number of the taxi or the driver´s serial number, you should send a fax, indicating your name, the information you do have regarding the taxi, the lost object, day, time, and trip taken. As well, a phone number where you can be contacted.
